What to wear

With hot air ballooning you can expect that the temperature will be about the same while flying as it is on the ground. Because you are there about an hour before sunrise it can be rather cool, but this changes once the sun comes up. It’s advisable to dress for comfort and not to impress. Dresses and very baggy tops and pants are not recommended and high and pointed heels are not allowed in the basket.

Closed in flat soled shoes are recommended as are slacks or jeans and a snug fitting shirt, light hoodies or jerseys you can easily take off if you get too hot are a good idea. It’s recommended you have a hat as the heater for the hot air above your head can at times be noticeable

Sunglasses, cameras and video bags are acceptable, but no backpacks or bags are allowed

Food and drinks are also not permitted on balloon flight and of course no smoking

Why hot air balloon flights take place early in the morning?

The main reason for early flights is because the weather is usually more stable at that time with optimum weather conditions for safe flying and launching hot air balloons

How many people will be in the balloon basket

Apart from the pilot there can be anywhere from two people on special exclusive flights and private charters or to up to 20 people on other flights, the exact number and size of the basket for the flight will be determined the night before during the flight planning.

Everyone in any part of the basket will get a complete 360degree view as the hot air balloon slowly revolves in the wind

Where will the Flight be?

The exact take off and landing areas will vary depending on the speed and direction of the wind. But you can choose a coastal or hinterland hot air balloon ride.

The height of your flight is also dependent on the winds and can be anywhere from just above treetop level to about 3,000ft. You can be sure you will get a great birds eye view as you float high above the ground.

The total travel distance is also wind dependant and can be anywhere from 5 to 30 kilometers

How is a hot air balloon steered?

Some directional control can be achieved using air currents and the pilot’s judgment, but hot air balloons cannot be steered, they are at the mercy of the wind. The only control is to ascend and descend by controlling the temperature inside the hot air balloon

Is there any age restriction?

The only age restriction is a child must be 4 years or above to go hot air ballooning in Australia

How long is the flight

The whole adventure usually takes about four to five hours, including you fantastic breakfast after you land, the actual flying time is about 30 minutes, depending once again on the wind although you can book for a longer flight if you desire by negotiation

.

Hot air ballooning in Australia is now very popular and you need to book early to avoid disappointment as room is limited on all flights.
